The internet was originally used for both academic and military purposes. It's primary focus was to facilitate communication between research intuitions and government agencies, this included emails and file sharing. ARPANET was a software that forecasted the internet. It was developed by the United States Department of defense. Often referred to as at the "fathers of the Internet" are Vinton Cerf and Bob Kahn in the 1970s. These two played a crucial role in the development of internet protocol software TCP and IP which later became the foundation of the internet. Today the Internet has completely taken over present day society and became the main foundation which sharing and communication takes place, in addition to being considered a means of making money.

Often used interchangeably with the internet is the World Wide Web (WWW). The World Wide Web was developed by a British computer scientists named Tim Berners-Lee in 1989. The purpose of the invention of the (WWW) software was to meet the demand for automated information sharing for other scientists at universities and institutions around the world. This type type of software was an important invention because it opened up the internet for everyone to use freely. Nowadays the World Wide Web allows for others to facilitate and share their work, thoughts, and images with others freely on the internet.

As mentioned above the World Wide Web and the internet are used interchangeably and for many are believed to be the exact same thing. However they are not the same thing however they share similar software and run side by side. The internet is the overarching software, or the big picture technology, that connects devices globally. The World Wide Web is a more specific and precise software that exists within the internet. The first website was created was also created by Tim Berners-Lee with the purpose of providing information on the World Wide Web project what it was and the history behind it, the website is in fact still accessible and up on the internet today.

Hedy Lamar was an Australian American actress and inventor who gained fame in the 1930s and 1940s. She has a connection to the history and development of bluetooth and WiFi software. Along with George Antheil Lamar patented a frequency -hopping spread spectrum technology. This invented sought to secure radio communication for torpedoes by preventing interference. The software was not immediately picked up by the military, however it would go on to set the foundation for future bluetooth and wifi technology. There is a song that was featured in a play, "Hedwig and the Angry Inch" that is titled "Hedwig's Lament" the song is not specifically about Hedy Lamar but the fictional character Hedwig.

Developed by Ericsson which was a Swedish technology company who began developing the bluetooth connection technology in 1994. Lead by Dr. Jaap Haartsen and Sven Mattisson. The term bluetooth was inspired and named after a danish king, Harzaid Gormsson. Gormsson was famously known for uniting tribes and bringing people together. The name symbolizes the unification of devices and connection like Gormsson unified tribes. The bluetooth logo consists of the initials H and B in the nordic runes.

When it comes to WIFI technology, it is a long history that began in the 1990s. This type of technology was developed by a group of scientists from the Electrical and Electronics Engineers(EEE). Key contributors of this development was Dr. Vic Hayes and the team of engineers that he lead. The term WiFi is not, and was not intended to be an acronym or nickname. It is actually a play on the term "Hi-Fi" or high fidelity, supposed to represent wireless fidelity.
